This cookbook began in 2007 as a collaboration between my sister and me, as a tribute to our mother, and as a way to pass on her Mediterranean and Sephardic recipes to my daughter Nicole. Although the original handcrafted book remains safe with Nicole, the loss of my sister's treasured copy in the 2025 Palisades fire inspired me to publish this family cookbook to preserve our mother's recipes and honor her memory. It is a multigenerational culinary journey, with recipes from grandparents, parents, aunts, cousins, and my daughter herself. The 37 vegetarian recipes include appetizers, soups and salads, signature dishes, pastas and rice, casseroles, and desserts. Learn to make stuffed grape leaves, handle filo dough for spanakopitas, and make the classic French crêpe. The recipes range from the simplest Ful Mudammas (Egypt’s national dish) to Tahdig, a spectacular but challenging rice dish. Desserts include haroset (a Sephardic date spread), a delicious orange loaf cake, and classic Middle Eastern delicacies like basbussa and kataifi The spirit of our mother, Vicky, is present throughout the cookbook. She would be happy and so proud to know that her gifts are acknowledged and appreciated by her daughters and granddaughter.
