From destitute to doctor: A long walk to stardom is an extremely inspirational book about an individual who could barely speak English when he entered class 1 (grade 1) due to various factors yet managed to rise to stardom despite all odds. His positive thinking as well as his industrious and adventurous nature, coupled with the self sacrifice, commitment and perseverance of both his grandparents (paternal and maternal) in laying a foundation firm enough for the future generations to build their dreams upon, is where the author derived his initial motivation from. The book tells the story of how he completed his schooling under very trying circumstances. It then describes his first job in a clothing factory where he swept the factory floor for a measly income. His dream was to become a high school teacher but this only materialised 12 years after he matriculated. Through part time home studies, the author accumulated four degrees and was eventually successful in being admitted to Doctoral Studies whilst in full time employment. This book captures his amazing struggle to become educated and realise his dreams.
