This guide for teachers provides a new look at classroom systems to support students on the autism spectrum. The easily adaptable accommodations in From Surviving to Thriving address common areas of need for students on the spectrum who are capable of participating in standard classrooms but need specific supports. Educators will learn not only what works but also why it works and how to implement it in their own classrooms. These accommodations are sustainable, never single out students with special needs, and work for every student of any age. An inclusive classroom doesn't just make school easier for the student; it makes teaching easier for the educator as well. Diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at the age of fourteen, Jonathan Chase is a speaker, advocate, and mentor to young adults on the autism spectrum. He has worked in the autism field since 2008, partnering with agencies, nonprofit organizations, and families to spread a message of understanding and awareness. He travels the country as a presenter, speaking at schools and conferences about autism supports and accommodations, and sharing personal stories about the challenges and successes of his own journey to independence. Jonathan lives in Portland, Oregon, with his cat, Sunny. He offers services as a consultant and mentor, as well as social groups for teens, including Dungeons & Dragons sessions and foam sword battles.
