Fred Frothingham is the patriarch of a fictional, wealthy Bostonian family, whose legacy stretches back over centuries of the city's history. Now an old man, he seeks to reconcile his place in that history through conversations with his grandson, affectionately known as Five—a young man who bears little semblance to his namesake.
