GAZA: TEARS OF RAGE, TEARS OF SORROW is the final novel in the trilogy of the Rabinowitzs and the Fawzas. A century ago, Shaul Rabinowitz and Sheikh Ahmed Fawza stood on the same ground, both believing it belonged only to them. Their clash and hatred began with CRY, ANGRY HILLS in 1922 and continued to the First Intifada in 1987. One hundred years later, a new generation takes up their struggle against the despised "Other" in MY BLOOD, MY LAND, as the Rabinowitz and Fawza clans continue their ancestral blood feud. GAZA: TEARS OF RAGE, TEARS OF SORROW witness the Rabinowitzs and Fawzas perched on the precipice of another brutal war between their families by October 7, 2023. Avram ben Binyamin Rabinowitz is the scion of a famous rabbinical and military family. Now a captain in the IDF, Avram is posted at Camp Jackal, a few klicks from the Israeli-Gaza Border, where he is responsible for intel gathering about the Hamas enemy intentions coming from the border village of Bayt Hanoun. The brothers Ibrahim and Khalid ibn Jibril Fawza are now Hamas fighters. Their parents’ ancestors had migrated from Tal Yahud in the Judean Hill Country to Gaza in search of peace and prosperity. Settling in Rafah, the border city across from the Egyptian frontier, this Fawza family lives a life of hardship and uncertainty as a three-way war rages among Egyptians and Israelis, Israelis and the PLO in Gaza, and later Hamas against the Israelis. Both brothers are at their stations inside tunnel exits, which Hamas fighters used when making hit-and-run type occasional assaults against the Negev border settlements like Kfar Aza. Mohammed Deif and Yahya Sinwar planned an attack, codenamed “Avenger,” to take place on October 7, 2023. This date was chosen for its significance to Jews worldwide. Simchat Torah is a celebration marking the time Moses gave the Torah to the ancient Israelites. The holiday happened to fall at the tail end of THE DAYS OF AWE in the religious calendar, right after Sukkoth, or the Feast of Booths, leading up to October 7, 2023. The exact date happens to be the fiftieth anniversary of the Yom Kippur War or the Ramadan War that broke out between Arabs and Jews in 1973. Deif and Sinwar were aware of the symbolism that they would take advantage of when Palestinians and Israelis get locked into their newest brutal war for survival. Ibrahim and Khalid Fawza will fire the first flares at 6:47 am on October 7, marking the launch of the long-planned assault. Minutes later, the assembled Hamas paragliders fly over the fragile barbed wire while Hamas infantry swarm across Israel’s tenuous Negev border. As the invaders from Gaza spread out, their first victims were attacked at the Nova Music Festival, whose participants were celebrating Simchat Torah and life in Eretz Israel. By nightfall and over the next several days, 1200 Israelis were killed, maimed, raped, or kidnapped, as Hamas took 253 hostages before the IDF could defeat and repel the attackers. GAZA: TEARS OF RAGE, TEARS OF SORROW is about the ongoing Second Hundred Years’ War between Palestinians and Israelis. While some on both sides envision an end to this useless and bloody conflict through a “Two State Solution” between these two nations, others on both sides want only victory and the death of their foe to settle the “Question of Whose Justice, Whose Right of Return” will prevail.
