The purpose of this book is to share a simple guide to what the Torah ("to guide / teach") tells us about living life the way God wishes. The first five books of the Bible are alternately known as Torah, the Law of God, Tanakh (Hebrew: tä-ˈnäḵ ), and the Five Books of Moses. This is the information and guidance God gave to mankind specifically to assist them in living life. I have studied the scriptures for decades, but always to verify the doctrine of whatever church I was attending. Several years ago, I found myself without a church and began to study the Torah with no (or, at best, very little) doctrinal bias. If God does not change (Malachi 3:6); if Jesus kept the whole Law (Matthew 5:17-19); and if John admonishes us to walk as Christ did (1John 2:6); then shouldn’t we know and keep God’s Directions today? If God gave instruction on how to live and Christ will rule using the same Laws in his future Kingdom, then why do we say that the Mosaic Law no longer applies to us in the age of Grace (a fabricated period of time that was concocted in the late 1800s)? All societies live by laws and someone(s) decided what those laws should be. If you live in society, you must follow the laws and ignorance of the law is no defense for violating one. I don’t like being ignorant so I looked for a quick list of the things God said were important. I could not find a simple list of things that the Father said, " do this ", " don't do that ", " eat this ", etc. - so I wrote this one. Jesus admonished the Pharisees for teaching traditions (Talmud) and obscuring the Law (Torah) through their religious edicts and practices. God said that His Commandments are not difficult, but over the centuries, Jewish leaders have added to God’s statutes as a way of helping the Jewish people to avoid close proximity with sin. The intentions initially were good, but the practices became a religion unto themselves and the Jews lost the message of God’s Love in the endless procedures and rules proscribed by the Talmud. Christians, for their part, bought the dispensational lie that the Old Testament does not apply to Christians; that we replaced the Hebrews as God's chosen people (despite their being no scriptural evidence of this); and that the Law of Moses was done away with for His new chosen people. This has led the Christian world into dangerous territory where they believe that Christ is okay with whatever we do, as long as we invoke it in the name of Jesus as we violate his Father's guidance with impunity. If Christ is to judge the world, what standard do we believe he will use? The current answer is that there is no standard. Why then, does he tell his disciples, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Matthew 7:13-14). A majority of the world believes in Christ, so why do few find the right path? Maybe we are not looking for the path. Did you confess Christ as Lord (Romans 10:9-10)? What does that mean? Is he Lord if you do whatever you want? “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46) Did you tell your employer, "I want this job, but I want to do it the way I want, not the way you want?" How do you think that would work out? There are less than 300 laws we can follow, today. How do you think your life could be if you follow them - if you emulated Christ as he followed his Father's will? Salvation is through faith, but works are the evidence of faith (James 2:20-24). Be grafted in (Romans 11:16-27)
