Let me start by saying that I love flowers; especially Iris’ and Daylilies. In 2001, I had finally outgrown my flower garden space in our small yard in a neighborhood in Norman, Oklahoma. My husband and I decided it was time to find a larger plot of land in a rural setting so I could indulge in expanding my love and passion of gardening. We purchased a small acreage and built our dream home, but were then faced with the daunting task of starting from scratch to develop beds and planting places that would suit my needs. I desired complementary planting places that could easily be expanded as I added to my collections of Iris and Daylily varieties. At the time of the publication of this book I have propagated approximately 450 varieties of Iris’s and 250 varieties of Daylilies. I realized during this journey that as I focused on the Iris and daylilies I needed to find items, tools, and techniques to provide a supporting cast to help my plants really show as stars. I found that I needed to add supporting plants, include some fun artifacts, and provide the best possible setting to showcase my babies. In this book I have provided many pictures of examples from my gardens on ways to highlight plants.
