Seventh grade interferes with Emma’s busy schedule. Inspired by a phone upgrade, she realizes that she needs a gap year before eighth grade to get enough time with her friends and reach her potential as a social media star and ballerina. After an embarrassing dance incident that goes viral, Emma convinces her parents that she needs a pause. Her time away from school doesn’t go as planned, however, but in the process, Emma realizes what is important in her life as she dictates her daily challenges into her phone’s diary app. This is a story about relationships, technology, and communication amid the modern wonders of 2018.
