This text discusses advances in applications of gene therapy for the treatment of neoplastic diseases. It contains discussions of gene therapy strategies, the construction of artificial genes and gene delivery systems. Ethical, regulatory and public policy issues in gene therapy are also considered. The papers which constitute this work were originally presented at a conference held by the New York Academy of Sciences on June 26-29, 1993, in Washington, DC.
