His contemporaries present Giorgione as a man with a sophisticated and romantic charm, a great lover and a musician committed to expressing in his art the sensual and imagined grace touched by the poetic melancholy characteristic of the Venetian way of life at that time.Giorgione was very closely associated with Titian. They both worked together on the Fondaco dei Tedeschi frescoes, and Titian finished at least a few paintings of his friend and colleague Giorgione after his death.Giorgione introduces a new set of themes in his work. Apart from the altar drawings and portraits, he painted works that do not narrate either biblical or classical stories, nor do they even say that they are telling a story, ignoring the action, and merely embodying the form and colorful lyrical or romantic feeling as a musician would have pictured them in sounds and melodies.Gifted with enormous innovative courage and genius, he had for a time a significant influence on his contemporaries and his immediate heirs in the Venice School. Giorgione was strongly influenced by artists such as Morto da Feltre, Domenico Capriolo and Domenico Mancini.
