The year is 2052 and serious crime can be controlled by use of an implant which removes a criminal’s memory and compels them to experience the same painful emotions they cause others to feel. Unbeknownst to all but a very few, there is a back door into the implants which allows its maker, Matthew Golden, to take control of the former criminals. The latest criminal to receive the implant awakens as a new man named Darren McKnight. He must learn how to deal with the unfamiliar and complex experiences of everyday life with an implant. As he struggles to construct a normal life, he encounters complications with his implant that take him down an unexpected path for which he was not trained nor prepared! As McKnight’s journey is unfolding, a scientist named Dr. Haley Hicks is accused of providing inaccurate evidence which convicts an innocent man. While she and her newly assigned partner, Detective Mark Peterson, attempt to prove that the device had been correct, their investigation uncovers an extraordinarily heinous plot, enveloping a horrified and victimized Darren McKnight, and precipitating an unexpected, bittersweet outcome.
