Guarding Peekskill: The Berkshire Militia’s Role is a 56-page book with details about an episode during the American Revolutionary War. It discusses militiamen from Berkshire County, Massachusetts, Litchfield County, Connecticut, Dutchess, Westchester, Ulster and Orange Counties in New York and regulars from the Continental Army. These units fended off five British warships in Haverstraw Bay during July 1776. My ancestor, Pvt. Eleazer Barrett, a farmer from Berkshire County, Massachusetts was stationed in a camp near Peekskill, NY during this period. This book has a 56 alphabetical name index with 256 additional names listed in appendices.
