Uther Pendragon takes Igraine as his own. Nine months later, the birth of Arthur is shrouded in secrecy. Merlin’s prophesy speaks of a sword, embedded deep within a stone, a sword that only the true heir to the throne can wield. Each failed attempt to withdraw the sword from the stone only deepens the mystery, the tension, the sheer impossibility of the task. Arthur approaches the stone, his eyes fixed on the sword. The sword slides from the stone with surprising ease. Arthur’s innovation of a Round Table of equality becomes a reality that extends beyond its physical aspects. It fosters a culture of camaraderie and mutual respect amongst his knights. The young king’s original sword brakes in a duel with King Pellinore. Arthur, accompanied by Merlin, visits the Lady of the Lake, and sees an arm extending from the surface of the lake holding a magic sword, Excalibur. Arthur requests the sword and is granted permission, so long as he promises to fulfill any request from her. The quest for the Holy Grail is a yearning in the hearts of the bravest knights of the Round Table. On their quest they face physical challenges, and supernatural encounters. The quest is not merely a physical pursuit; it is a journey of spiritual self-discovery. Arthur takes Guinevere as his bride in a lavish ceremony. The Lady of the Lake later comes to Camelot to hold Arthur to his promise. She asks for the head of Sir Balin. Arthur declines. Balin swiftly decapitates her. Arthur has him banished from the kingdom. Lancelot and Guinevere’s forbidden love blossoms. Balin’s wanderings in the wilderness, having tested his resolve, gave him a newfound commitment to make amends, not just to Arthur, but to himself. Mordred’s rebellion erupts into full-blown warfare, shattering the fragile peace that clung precariously to the kingdom. The bloody battle of Camlann rages on. A fight to the death. Arthur and his knights are overwhelmed. The battle is lost. Their king, the symbol of their hopes and dreams, is dead, along with all but three of his loyal knights. Morgaine le Fay sees the defeat as an opportunity that she can exploit. Her reign is one of constant fear and oppression. Guinevere is imprisoned in the Obsidian Tower. The three remaining knights, Percival, Galahad, and Lancelot set out on a quest to free Guinevere and reclaim Camelot. They battle fiery dragons, face phycological challenges, and supernatural beings. They eventually engage in a fierce battle with Morgaine, in which the knights, their loyalists, and Guinevere herself ultimately achieve victory.
