This outstanding Japanese turnip has an excellent sweet and mild flavor that makes it a favorite salad ingredient. The slightly flattened round roots are crisp and white. The smooth, dark green tops can be eaten as well. The texture of the flesh stays smooth as it matures. The plants tolerate cool temperatures and mature early.The flat-round, smooth, white roots mature early, just after radishes, and are best harvested young, up to 2 diameter. Eaten raw, the flavor is sweet and fruity, and the texture is crisp and tender. The dark-green, hairless tops are useful raw or lightly cooked with the roots. Hakurei stays smooth as it sizes.
