We chose melamine for the catch-tray because it’s a durable waterproof material. Other sponge holders use a flimsy plastic tray that easily cracks and leaks. We certainly couldn’t have that. Especially since the whole point of the catch-tray is to catch dripping water and soap to prevent staining.
