Barbara Hitching co-founded and led a non-profit organization for twenty years, working to promote dignity and spiritual freedom among oppressed minorities and indigenous people. In 2005, she trained as a volunteer crisis counselor with Peace River Center, a government mental health agency in Florida. For five years, she was on call 24/7 at three hospitals. As a first responder to rape victims, she encouraged the administration of rape kits and advocated for survivor rights with medical staff and police. Certified as a Trauma Healing Facilitator with the Trauma Healing Institute, she works with trauma survivors both one-on-one and in groups.
