Chorkie Walker is no ordinary miniature teddy bear with articulated limbs. Chorkie is articulate, a conscious being with a rucksack, a will to walk and a passion to talk. Influenced by Friedrich Nietzs-che’s Zarathustra , Chorkie Walker challenges the Church, channeling a pastiche of ancient wisdom to share with fellow pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. Using charm, cheerfulness and charisma, Chorkie hitches a ride on the path to self-fulfillment, choosing to go with the flow and trust in the divine, whatever form it might take. Chorkie’s adventures on the Way are sure to make readers think, laugh, and cry, in equal measure. Suitable for all ages from 12-120. In the first book of the Thus Spoke Chorkie Walker trilogy, Chorkie spoke ches truth as a balanced being; in the second, Chorkie defied the scientific community; in Hitching Down The Way Chorkie tackles religion on the Camino de Santiago. An extract from Chorkie’s notes from the journey follows: Day 1: The Fall Woke up in the road, flat on my rucksack, unable to move or speak. Nomad’s nightmare. Meditated. Smiling Korean man placed me on a stone post. Waited. Isabelle came running, roped me in, no further incidents, nice scenery to Roncesvalles. Day 2: Equinox Still inarticulate, blissfully ignorant of people, enjoyed the walk and scenery to Zubiri. Couldn’t sleep. Overnight vision of leprechaun, said I was no different to him, hanging from a key chain, what gave me the right to defy gravity? Reasoned myself to sleep. Day 3: Breakthrough Rose with the dawn, restored. Leprechaun and his humans gone. Feeling chipper. Met Canadians Roger and Ruth; Juliet, English; Freda, German; and J-Y the Korean man. Got to know Isabelle better: self-made businesswoman from Lyon. Afternoon in Pamplona, acquired carabiner. Isabelle and Freda long chat, offered her a job. Breast pocket great for town tours. Day 4: Temptation Woken early but back to sleep till dawn. Mariana (Es), Giorgio (It), Matteo (De) and Freda (De) all at breakfast. Isabelle with R&R. Quick skim of Roger’s guide book, acquired credential in Cathedral, brisk walk to Alto de Perdón. Met J-Y with M-J, Korean woman, kept offering me water! Explained why stone circles diminish the size of humans in my eyes and met Franz, German, young and cynical, on a donkey. To Puente la Reina, chat with Ruth. Gave after-dinner speech on Camino/Daoist Ways: Franz, Freda, Matteo, Giorgio, Mariana, Is., J-Y, M-J, R&R. Day 5: Neutrality Speech on the bridge between man and the divine, on the Puente, and why I am so balanced. Pleasant walk to Estella, Isabelle edgy, so spent evening with R&R talking – divine consciousness and unconscious human. Day 6: The Well Met Conor & Shannon, and Leppy their inarticulate leprechaun, over breakfast. Ruth stopped for second breakfast at wine fountain, I rejoined Isabelle. Walked with Freda to Los Arcos, and Franz to Sansol, Franz wanting to camp. Mieke, Dutch woman, at same Albergue, sad story. Day 7: Tension Misty start, quiet. Viana for brunch. Matteo and Freda having footbath in Christian café, then Mieke and dad. Discussion with staff over the age of mankind. Isabelle bought us matching shells. On to Logroño with Matteo and Freda. Lots of familiar faces, some new. Skipped out for book club: Giorgio’s Inferno and Mariana’s I Ching, Dao and The Way English novel. Day 8: Greatness in Excess Uneventful day to Nájera. Talked to Nigel, English engineer, in evening, carrying everything he needs and more for 3-month hike from Canterbury. Day 9: Critical Mass Passed through Santo Domingo de Calzada, soaked up history. Feel small again. To Grañon. We first, but 14 more plus Leppy. John the Baptist and the Holy Spirit mass, sing for supper, private prayer session: one by one we all spoke, Leppy mocked me for daring to quote the Baptist. No one but me heard him. Am I losing my mind
