Angus, sixteen, had been riding the rails as a hobo for the past two years. He was big and strong and carried a club he had taken from a railroad bull. He would make friends with Riley, thirteen, and Eli, fourteen. He’d tell the younger hoboes to let big brother Angus take care of them. Later, a young hobo named Joe would join them. Joe had a secret that the other three would learn. The four teenage hoboes would travel the country during the hardest time in the twentieth century, the Great Depression. They would become family; their lives and their next meal would depend on each other. They would travel the south and the west looking for the mythical place called Hobo Junction, a place where hoboes were liked and given jobs, food, and a place to sleep. They would make friends and enemies along the way. The four young hoboes would accomplish amazing feats, but also their lives would be in danger. They didn’t share the same blood, but they became as close as any family. An incredible adventure during one of the hardest times in our nation.
