When stars would "take it off" in old Hollywood movies, they were still dressed! This paper doll collection is a fun way to look at the various states of "undress" in some of our favorite classic films. Four glamorous models (three ladies and a handsome gentleman) are ready to cut-out and dress-up in corsets, pajamas, negligees, nightgowns, robes, slips, swimwear and even a union suit. Included are iconic costumes worn by Marilyn Monroe, Jean Harlow, Sophia Loren, Barbra Streisand and even Tom Cruise. There are 45 fashion items in all! A witty essay by artist and fashion historian David Wolfe explains how even undressed, Hollywood is a fun fashion fantasy, perfect inspiration for paper dolls! As a little boy growing up in Ohio, David was fascinated by his older cousin's collection of movie star paper dolls from the 1940s and '50s. The glamour of fashion and film resonated with the artistic child and led to a highly successful career in the fashion industry, starting with a job in a small town department store. David moved to London when it was the hot spot for swinging '60s style. He became one of Europe's leading fashion illustrators with work appearing in British newspapers and magazines as well as advertising campaigns for leading fashion stores in London and Paris. Early in the 1990s, David joined The Doneger Group, the major retail consultancy based in New York and became a popular speaker making presentations for major retailers, designers and fashion schools. As a high-profile professional, he was known as "The most quoted fashion authority in America" with pithy comments in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Dallas Morning News and television spots. Now retired from the fashion industry, David is busy creating paper dolls that recall his passion for fashion illustrations. He is inspired by the celebrity paper doll books of the 1940s and '50s and among his many titles are Doris Day and Queen Elizabeth II. Since 2002, his paper doll books are published exclusively by Paper Studio Press.
