Home Again combines a collection of Armenian recipes from the Ottoman Empire with a memoir of a family of immigrants who kept certain recipes close to their hearts as a means of preserving their cultural heritage. The author examines the relationship between history and cuisine, between displacement and memory, between the individual and their ancestors. She has sourced the recipes of her grandmother’s home village, outside modern day Bursa, as well as recipes from other Armenian towns. Firkatian is a linguist and a historian she has published numerous articles and three books so far; on nationalism and diplomacy. Home Again is her fourth book. A person who loves to travel and explore the world she has combined her passion for history with her curious nature to discover as much of the world as she can in her lifetime. She has been fortunate to have lived and traveled extensively in the all of Europe but especially the Middle East, Southeast Europe and the Soviet Union. Over the course of multiple visits she has explored museums and battle fields, archives and bookstores, farmers' markets and street food vendors to amplify her understanding of unfamiliar cultures and societies. Somebody who adores the outdoors and exploring the wonders of nature she is a hiker, bicyclist, skier, swimmer, and mountain climber. She has done cycling tours of Europe, has skied in the French Alps, and hiked a great deal. Been a tourist in the former Soviet Bloc countries and lived with host families throughout Europe. Being active in the world physically and intellectually stimulates her wonder and spurs her to keep traveling.
