Horace Mann's name is synonymous with American public education, but his exact importance is often misunderstood. The chief misconception is that because Mann's goal was public education for everyone, he wished to excise religion and moral education from the schools. This important 54-page book published by the Heritage Restoration Project provides a reliable corrective. Most of the book consists of material quoted from the writings of Horace Mann, and as such, allows the "Father of the Public School System" to speak for himself. We live at a time when Christians are systematically denied a voice in the public arena, including public education. Horace Mann can help give Christians a place to stand. The book is forwarded by Leland Ryken, Professor Emeritus of Wheaton College.
