Daniel Fontaine has been a warrior all his adult life; on the gridiron as an All-American halfback for the University of Tennessee under General Bob Neyland, as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during World War II, and now as a Knight in the Holy Order of St. Claire. Oh, and Danny is also a werewolf. Don't worry! He’s not a ravening beast who changes with the full moon to terrorize the countryside, but a member of an ancient, secret society that fights supernatural evil under the direction of the Church of Rome. When a platoon of infantry soldiers go missing under mysterious circumstances along the Cambodian border, the Army sends in a team of Special Forces to find out what happened. When they go missing as well, Congressman Sean McDonough, father of one of missing, turns to the Vatican in desperation. The church of course, turns to Daniel who is now Knight Captain Commander of his own pack of Lycanthropes in Montiseraan, Switzerland. Daniel and the Hounds of God must travel half-way around the world in an attempt to rescue the missing service members and remove the threat of the Children of the Wyrm and Lu Long Quan, their Dragon King. Otherwise, President Johnson is prepared to carpet bomb the entire border region, even at the risk of escalating the Vietnam War to engulf all of Southeast Asia.
