Huskies Lost Journey, written by Matthew Bellanfonte, is a heartwarming children's tale set in a vast, snow-covered wilderness where the "cold wind blows" and the "ground is white". The story centers on a resilient, grey-coated husky who has unfortunately lost his way and become separated from his pack. Despite the loneliness and the harsh environment, the husky remains focused on a singular, "simple quest": to find his way back home to his family. Setting off on a journey toward the "north and west," the husky encounters several distractions and dangers. His first major encounter is with a "great scaly Dragon" perched upon a rock. This dragon is a magnificent creature with wings, a long tail, and skin as "hard as a coat of mail". The dragon tries to entice the husky to abandon his search and join their "wonderful club" of dragons, promising games with "bright fireballs" and a life of pride and grandeur. However, the husky, though shivering and small in the dragon's presence, politely declines, explaining that his need to find his pack is more important than joining the grand group. As he continues, the husky is questioned by a soaring "great Hawk" with a "piercing cry". Just like before, the husky remains steadfast, informing the hawk of his determination to get home. The journey takes a more dangerous turn when a "Pest Control man" appears in the distance with a "clever contraption" designed to trap animals. This trap is described as having a "shiny gold handle and silver-bright latch," but the "smart" husky recognizes it for what it is. Using his instincts, he avoids the "cage" and stays on his path. Ultimately, the husky's perseverance is rewarded. Under the light of a high moon, he catches a "familiar scent". Following this trail through the darkness and ice, he eventually reaches the edge of the woods where he is finally reunited with his "old pack". The book concludes as a celebration of family, intelligence, and the unwavering determination to return to where one belongs.
