A gift that is out of this world
We knew we had to distinguish ourselves. Firstly, we offer various fine art printing options using our state of the art giclee printing technology, which we also use for our museum quality art reproductions to capture every brush stroke and subtle color field. Our designers have created best-selling personalized items on IPIC and have created unique star map art designs that are sure to stand out from the crowd. We were very careful to get the basics the accuracy of the star maps themselves right. We have researched deeply into methods to create star maps art correctly and consulted experts.
You may be wondering why our 0-360 dial goes counter-clockwise. Directions on a star chart take a little getting used to. East is left of north on a star chart, not to the right like on a map of the ground. The reason is because you look down at the ground but up at the sky. On your special day, if it is a clear night, hold your canvas up against the sky and see if you could spot the constellations on your star art.
The background images reflecting the unique position of the milky way on your special day is obtained from a third party website and based on a Digitalized Sky Survey sourced from STScI/NASA, colored & Healpixed by CDS, produced at the Space Telescope Science Institute under U.S. Government grant NAG W-2166. The images of these surveys are based on photographic data obtained using the Oschin Schmidt Telescope on Palomar Mountain and the UK Schmidt Telescope. The plates were processed into the present compressed digital with the permission of these institutions. Stars are plotted using The Bright Star Catalogue, 5th Revised Edition. The Virtual Telescope uses the definitive Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Star Catalogue [SAO: 1966], updated to epoch J2000.0 and corrected by Roman and Warren in 1990.
