It is not well-known that Swami Vivekananda was also a poet. Culled from the Complete Works, many of the poems were written in moments of great spiritual feeling. Includes poems originally written in English and translations from Sanskrit, Hindi and Bengali. Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) was the chief disciple of the great spiritual master Sri Ramakrishna and founded the Ramakrishna Math and Mission in India. Spending four years in the West, he was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world, and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century.
