His first job found him at age nine. A man on the sidewalk in front of his apartment building carried a stack of magazines. When little Howie was about to go inside the man asked, “are you interested in making a few dimes?” He handed him a stack of magazines to sell to neighbors. That was just the start. Howard was so successful he won the sales contest for the month. The prize - an ARVIN radio. Today, at age 96, Howard Alper looks back at his life and how he accomplished what he set out to do. By minimizing and managing risk, finding new angles with which to view every challenge. Working out problems is his mantra. He handles each situation to find an outcome that benefits all involved. These are the conditions that fire up his grey cells - from early childhood to this day. Starting his own insurance brokerage and consulting company in 1966, Alper Services grew to over 60 employees, offering a large array of value added services. It was heralded a Best Practices Agency by Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America for many years , just to name one of the many achievements that followed. In 1993 he discovered now famous Western Artist John Coleman, who had just started out. To this day Howard Alper collects every #1 strike of John's sculptures, now on display in the Alper Coleman Gallery of Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, a Smithsonian recognized institution. His life truly is a life lived to the fullest. No minute goes by without a new idea or solution.
