Colossians 1:13 tells us that God has translated us from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of the son whom He loves. Clearly something has been lost in translation, because despite their best efforts many Christians are oppressed by fear, anger, and the same compulsive and destructive patterns of behavior that tormented them before they were born again. Why does this happen? Is there any way of escape? Can we reasonably expect, before we die, to make our home in the place of peace, safety, and deep satisfaction that Jesus offered us?Yes, we absolutely can. I have spent 25 years delving into the ancient writings of the Christian church in search of an answer. I discovered that what we need is not more power or knowledge or discipline, but a different perspective on God and on the spiritual life. This book explains that perspective and how it differs from the one that modern Christians are indoctrinated into. Perhaps you long to believe that the peace and freedom that you read about in the Bible is real, but you don’t experience it in your life as deeply as you want to. Perhaps you have applied yourself to “the spiritual life” and found that something in the core of your soul still feels hollow and restless.
