This book is written by Lt. David Vanderport (ret.) His book presents a perspective on one of America’s most divisive issues, the relationship between police and the citizens among whom they work. It tells a story of the grinding mental forces of violence, human despair, and two-second life-and-death decisions that lead to more cop suicides every year than death in the line of duty. This is a fiction book comprised of several short stories. The stories are told by Luke, a veteran police officer who has worked in investigations, corrections, and on patrol. The majority of his career has been spent in a city with a population of approximately 300,000 people. Throughout the years the job has taken it’s toll on Luke. He has had many ups and downs in his career as well as in his personal life. Some of his issues are of his own doing but they are certainly exacerbated by the mental grind of law-enforcement. This book is filled with action packed stories which can be read and stand on their own; however, the stories are also part of a bigger picture message, mental health in law-enforcement.
