The much-anticipated sequel to The Dangerous Christmas Ornament is finally here! Mike Owen is now in high school, enjoying his new girlfriend and his new popularity. But life gets interrupted when a series of mishaps transfer him and his friends into a whole other world — the very world his mysterious Christmas ornament originated from! Inside the Glass Castle by Bob Siegel skips along the path of writer greats such as C.S. Lewis ( The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe) and JRR Tolkien (The Hobbit ). Mr. Siegel takes a page out of these authors' storybooks by taking his place in the genre these authors created with his parallel universe, supernatural charms, and well-drawn characters. Even with the many characters and plot twists, the author effortlessly switches from the protagonist, Mike's, POV in first person, and the other characters' POV in 3rd person. This literary device drives the story in a brisk, but steady pace, allowing the author to develop his characters, and the reader to know and root for their heroes. My only frustration was when the novel ended; I was not ready to put the book down and wished for more. Good news! It's a series, so readers will be hearing more from Mike, Cliff, Ben and the gang, and of course, everyone's favorite--Caligula, the cat.
