Inspire your students to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young children and their families with Introduction to Early Childhood Education, Ninth Edition . This text provides current and future educators with a highly readable, comprehensive overview of the field so students understand the many components of high-quality early childhood programs. At its core, the book emphasizes the vital role of professional early childhood educators in connecting with young children and creating programs that foster their learning and development. Aligned with the latest NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) position statements, including the Professional Standards and Competencies for Early Childhood Educators, this supportive text provides students with the skills, theories, and practices needed to succeed and thrive as early childhood educators. It is organized in a logical, easy to follow manner, and it is on the appropriate reading level for the students. -- Beth Kara Dawkins I think the text is excellent. I would choose to adopt this text for my class with undergraduate students and recommend it to my colleagues. -- Isaac Willis Larison This text, the summaries and the key questions give us plenty of information for content and discussion. This text also helps my students know what to look for in their laboratory experiences. -- Lois Silvernail One thing I especially appreciate about the text is that the NAEYC standards are included right at the beginning of the chapters … I believe this text to be an excellent text for my intro course class members. -- Pamela Langlie-Willers Melissa Burnham Ph.D., IMH-E®, is professor of human development and family science and early childhood education and serves as the executive coordinator of the Child and Family Research Center at the University of Nevada, Reno.
