Many today dismiss the Puritans as outdated and irrelevant. But they were used by God to bring about a powerful reformation which had a transformative effect on their society. They were driven by ardent love for Christ, devotion to the Word of God, and personal experience of the Spirit’s power. They were passionate to see the Church made beautiful for Christ, and zealous for God to be glorified in every aspect of life. All this produced a beautiful harmony of biblical belief, experience, and practice. Today, as we minister in a context of moral and spiritual confusion, we can be inspired as we reflect on their lives and ministries. Erroll Hulse was committed to working for reformation in our contemporary age. He ministered in many different countries. This book, first published in 2000, has proven popular in a variety of cultural contexts, as the timeless biblical truths taught and lived out by the Puritans are explained in a lively and accessible way. After an overview of the historical background, and sketches of the lives of around twenty Puritan leaders, we are helped to see the relevance of the Puritan legacy for the pressing issues of our own day. —Sharon James, author and conference speaker, daughter of Erroll and Lynnette Hulse I am excited about the reprinting of Erroll Hulse’s excellent writings which are all full of biblical, Reformed, godly, seasoned, and practical wisdom. My good friend Erroll was always full of burning zeal for Christ and optimistic expectation for His kingdom, and his writings wonderfully reflect his character and personality that was molded by the Holy Spirit. If you’ve never read his books before, now is the time to do so. If you are a Christian, you will be helped, encouraged, and challenged. —Dr. Joel R.
