Gold Mom's Choice Award Paris Book Festival Honorable Mention Best Memoir Bob Denver would never in a million years have thought of himself as an icon, but on this 60th anniversary year of his most famous television series, "Gilligan’s Island," his wife, Dreama Denver, begs to differ. The fact that "Gilligan’s Island" is still airing somewhere on the planet 60 years after its 1964 debut proves that not only is the show iconic, but the man who played the title role is also. Anytime you see someone wearing a red shirt and a white hat, what’s the first thought that comes to mind? If you’re old enough, you think GILLIGAN! She has compiled a Bob Denver memory album from their memorabilia and his mother's scrapbooks to honor her husband and his career. Bob Denver and Gilligan’s Island are still loved and cherished by fans worldwide. I could not stop looking at the pictures in Island to Icon , and I do not doubt that all other Gilligan's Island fans will be equally enthusiastic about this book. Dreama Denver provided a concise and clear account of her husband's life, and her insights make you appreciate the pictures even more. I liked the high quality of the images, which are not blurry as can happen in some photo books; this demonstrates attention to detail. The photos allow you to appreciate Bob Denver as he deserves and bring a smile to your face, especially because the actor's expressions are magnificent. I believe this tribute was due, and I am happy to have found this book. I am sure anyone who loves Bob Denver and 'Gilligan's Island' will enjoy the wonderful work that Dreama Denver has offered us. --Readers' Favorite Island to Icon includes photos through the years, newspaper clippings, show bills, letters, awards, and a descriptive narrative that leads the reader through one man’s life. This is a fitting tribute to not only sixty years of 'Gilligan’s Island' (has it really been sixty years?) but also to seventy years of Bob’s life. Flipping through the pages is a journey through my own life as well as the icon we all came to love. -- Readers’ Favorite Actress, award-winning author, radio station owner and personality Dreama Denver met her husband of almost 30 years, television icon Bob Denver (Gilligan of Gilligan's Island, Maynard G. Krebs of Dobie Gillis), when she was cast as his love interest in the Woody Allen play, "Play It Again, Sam." After marrying the popular television personality, Dreama continued her acting career, appearing in a Gilligan’s Island reunion movie with Bob, co-starring with him in a TV pilot titled "Scamps" and touring the U.S. and Canada successfully and happily with her husband for over a decade. "The Denver Foundation and Little Buddy Radio, a nonprofit radio station owned and operated by the Foundation, were Bob’s last and most important legacies," Dreama says, "and making these two entities as successful as possible became my mission after Bob passed away. His desire to give back to West Virginia was huge. Leading the effort to have John Denver’s "Take Me Home Country Roads" adopted, successfully and unanimously, as an official WV state song ranks as one of the proudest days of her life, rivaled only by being chosen one of West Virginia’s Wonder Women by WV Living magazine. Dreama’s memoir, Gilligan’s Dreams, received the prestigious Ella Dickey Literacy Award, a Mom’s Choice Award, and a Next Generation Indie Book Award among others. Her children’s books, Four Bears in A Box, Back to the Beach, and Zen and Now are also multi award-winning books. For more information visit DreamaDenver.com
