Jason Curtis Slater lived a life of extremes. From busting out of incarceration as a teenager, to partying with Prince and recording Ronnie James Dio, Jason experienced all that life had to offer in his 49 years. As a musician, Jason was the original bassist and a founding member of Third Eye Blind. He later formed the experimental hard rock project Snake River Conspiracy with Eric Valentine (producer of Third Eye Blind, Queens of the Stone Age, Smash Mouth, Slash), and scored a major label record deal for Brougham, a hip-hop group he created with rapper Luke Sick. Jason produced albums for a variety of alternative rock and metal bands in the early-2000s, leading to a decade of work as the producer and primary songwriter of progressive heavy metal icons Queensrÿche. Jason Slater: For the Sake of Supposing is the official story of a musical savant, whose rough edges and insecurities hid a beautiful soul in search of a family. "This is one of the more interesting, music insider biographies I've read in a long time." - Joshua Wood, Metal-Rules Jason Slater wasn't just one of my best friends. He was family. We talked about writing this book together back in 2006/2007, laughing at how we would tell his stories and talk about his life once his career in music was over. Jason got very ill in 2016, and kept fighting, one day at a time, until his passing in December 2020. During his last years, we both wrote notes, kept track of stories and facts that he wanted to share. When he knew the end was near, he told me to "write the book," regardless of what happened to him. I promised I would. A few years of healing, I finally felt able to live up to my word. This book isn't your typical biography or memoir. Jason comes in and out of it, with his actual writing floating through chapters like a companion, keeping his larger than life presence within the pages. That was done on purpose, to keep Jason's unique personality a distinct part of the journey. I hope you enjoy this unique tribute to the life of one of the Bay Area's most colorful musical minds, and a character we all lovingly referred to as J-Rock.
