Bob Delaney, known by his trail name, “Jon's Dad,” has spent several decades traveling at every opportunity. He learned a long time ago that all you need is a passport, a credit card, and a backpack to enjoy long distance hiking trails anywhere in the world. Join him on his latest adventure hiking from Hemavan to Abisko on Kungsleden in Sweden. He introduces you to the nicest people you would ever want to meet and shares the excitement and challenges of being far from home in possibly the most beautiful environment in the world. Follow Jon’s Dad on all of his adventures at: YouTube.com/@JonsDadHikes . The King’s Trail (Kungsleden) is a premier wilderness backpacking trail in the far northern reaches of Swedish Lapland. Kungsleden, established in the early 20th century, is 270 miles (440 km) long. It runs between Abisko in the north and Hemavan in the south through the beautiful and remote Swedish mountains. The trail takes you through four stunning national parks (Abisko, Stora Sjöfallet, Sarek, and Pieljekaise). It rewards you with snow-covered mountain peaks, expansive pine and birch forests, cold river crossings, and welcoming mountain villages. Where Kungsleden crosses the Arctic Circle, a small, weathered, and unreadable wooden sign will greet you. Experience firsthand the unique arctic landscapes, herds of reindeer, unlimited views, and, if you are lucky, the Northern Lights! Wild camping in the mountains is encouraged under Sweden’s Allemansrätten law. Sleeping in a bed with a blanket and pillow is possible most nights too because Swedish Tourist Association (STF) mountain cabins are spaced about a day’s hike apart. Jon's Dad covers all aspects of the planning and preparation required for hiking Kungsleden. You will learn about traveling to and from Kungsleden, the trailheads and trail sections, interesting side trips, equipment and clothing requirements, and resupply options. When you have completed the checklists proposed by Jon’s Dad, you will be ready to buy your plane tickets and head for Sweden. After reading his day-by-day experiences, you will be excited to commit to your own life changing Kungsleden adventure.
