The Man & His Inspired Tools What do the scriptures say would be used for translating the sacred record of Mormon? What did Joseph Smith and those directly involved have to say? What are the detractors promoting? Sadly, there is a trend among modern church historians to take previously known anti-Mormon sources and treat them when the same credibility of well-established and trusted witnesses. Herein is highlighted the Stoddards’ book analyzing the prophetic translation of the Book of Mormon, which does an excellent job of scientifically & doctrinally establishing the Urim and Thumim, not the seer stones, as the tool for translation, along with all that implies. Here we will analyze key witnesses including the Lord, Joseph himself, David Whitmer, Oliver Cowdry, and expose the openly hostile works of Mormonism Unveiled, Hurlbut, Howe, Bushman, and narratives of Joseph as a 'treasure digger', 'village seer', or 'magical' person. We will look at the doctrinal case for the Urim & Thummim being passed down for the purpose of translating the sacred Book of Mormon, and the flimsy evidence for the seer stone being used in translation. In this book, we will uphold the prophet's character as a hardworking, honest, trustworthy Christian man and take his testimony over that of traitors.
