Joseph McNamee was a wild partier until Jesus got ahold of him. He then had a radical transformation and started attending church on a regular basis. However, some people who attended his church were actually Satanists posing as Christians who, through a series of brilliant deceptions led him into another church. This church told him lies about the nature and character of God and invariably told him that God was angry at him. Joseph had an abusive, alcoholic father and so he didn't understand God's true character and went through deep depression. He eventually got out of that church and started attending a church where he was restored and set free from the lies of that prior church. He also gave his recorded testimony of being in the Satanic church to his friends and relatives, upon the associate pastor's suggestion. Upon being delivered and healed, he set out to help a woman who attended there and was a sex addict. She had advanced herself upon Joseph sexually when he first arrived there. He misguidedly tried to help her by enticing her out of her addiction by giving her a mildly sexually explicit card, thinking she may then desire him, as he had turned down her initial sexual advance. As it turns out, the woman gave the card to their pastor, who gave it to Joseph's brother, who was an attorney. Joseph's brother then brought him to court, citing his testimony of one who was mentally, and Joseph's pastor also testified in court saying he was mentally ill. This pastor was the same person who spent close to four years healing his mind from the onslaught of the lies of the Satanic church, and after she did so then turned around and said he was mentally ill! He was sent to the Anoka State Mental Hospital. One of the reasons being sent there was that he was unemployed and homeless. Just prior to Anoka, he lost his job unjustly. and and eventually found a job at the Salvation Army working as a floor monitor on the special needs /chemically dependent department. While there, he witnessed many problems, such as drug use on the floor and sexual activity, along with a very prejudiced boss, who told him only to speak to blacks to "demoralize" them. He then wrote a letter to the Lieutenant of the Salvation Army, citing eighteen various improprieties on the floor. He was fired yet again and went homeless once more. He went to several other churches, only asking for prayer, and they all threatened to or called the police on the "homeless vagabond." As a result, Joseph went back to that Satanic church and asked them to pray that God would protect him from the Christians! The book is titled Joseph because of the numerous similarities between him and the Joseph of the Old Testament. They both got in trouble through no fault of their own due to immoral women, Joseph of the Old Testament was sent to the dungeon, while modern-day Joseph was sent to a lock up psych ward and the captivity of the mental hospital. They both had brothers who were influential in sending them into captivity, with the difference being the modern-day Joseph's brother harbored no ill will towards him, as did the Biblical Joseph's brothers, who were jealous of him.. Both Josephs were very emotional who would weep frequently as they experienced the pain of life and their reaction to it, expressing themselves the only way they knew how: tears
