Jungle Episodes is the story of God's calling of a young man to be a medical missionary in spite of poor academic achievements and no money. He ended up in the jungles of Thailand where he took care of patients who had encountered mad elephants, wild bears, poisonous snakes, and evil spirits. Malaria, leprosy, tuberculosis, typhoid, and then lastly HIV were epidemic along with other tropical diseases where John worked. Among John's episodes was a visit to Dacca where he was caught in a firefight between the Indian and Pakistan armies as the Bangladeshi war for independence was fought. Also interesting is the episode of building a bridge from left over "Death Railroad" rails over the upper Kwai River. Helping solve the cause of an epidemic in a Cambodian refugee camp led to the healing of a near fatal illness of the King of Thailand. The book is filled with colored photos of rural Thailand where John worked.
