This is the first monographic biography in English of Kaumuali'i, the last independent King of the Hawaiian island of Kaua'i. Readers will learn about the nature and history of the Hawaiian culture, especially from the time of first Western contact (1778) to 1830. Lee B. Croft, the author of "Kaumuali'i and the Last of Hawaii's God Kings" is a teacher, scholar, and Professor Emeritus of the Russian Language and Culture at Arizona State University, where he taught and administered language programs for thirty-eight years. He is the author of 16 books and over 300 scholarly articles, translations, and reviews, several of which involve the relation of Hawaiian history. He has been a part-time resident of Hawaii (O'ahu and Kaua'i) for more than thirty years and is an associate of Kaua'i's "Friends of King Kaumuali'i."
