When Luke Larson and his wife Evie embarked on a 500-mile pilgrimage across northern Spain, their purpose was to experience walking as a way of keeping company with Jesus and his companions, of both earth and heaven, such as Saint Ignatius of Loyola.  Keeping Company is filled with personal, luminously candid, and often amusing stories of the couple’s experiences along the Way of Saint James. More than anything, this book invites you to step off the treadmill of self-effort in your quest to experience God more intimately through the spiritual practice of walking, literally, with God.   “Combining the beauty of Martin Sheen’s movie The Way, the allure of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, and a gentle, original and creative introduction to Ignatian spirituality, Larson provides insight into marriage, self-knowledge and God. A great read!”  —Dr. Richard G. Malloy, SJ, The University of Scranton, author of Being on Fire: The Top Ten Essentials of Catholic Faith “We are fortunate that Luke Larson has been willing to share this incredible journey. He and his wife Evie clearly have a profoundly deep spirituality that is grounded in the everyday issues that confront us in trying to encounter the living God. What they learned about themselves, St. Ignatius of Loyola, and the God of pilgrimage is an incredible window into how even lesser ‘walks’ can be transformative.”  —Sr. Carol Keehan DC, President/CEO, Catholic Health Association of the United States “Larson gives a personal account of a 500-mile pilgrimage across northern Spain that he made with his wife in  Keeping Company With Saint Ignatius: Walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela.  A former Jesuit seminarian, Larson has an engaging, down-to-earth voice that made it possible for me to read passages that might otherwise have been so intimate as to be inaccessible—like invitations to and from Ignatius, Jesus and Mary. I read him while preparing to make my third trip on the Camino and relished his descriptions of the serendipities and pleasures of fellowship on its many miles. They met complete strangers along the way who had already heard about him and his wife, Evie—‘that couple from North Dakota’—through the pilgrim grapevine. Blister remedies were swapped with other travelers, as were tips on stuff to unpack, things to read and places to eat, sleep or see...Larson’s keen eye for the sanctity of everyday life, his good humor and his ear for lore of the camino make  Keeping Company With Saint Ignatius consistently rewarding read.”  —Jim Dwyer, graduate of Loyola School and Fordham University, is a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist at The New York Times and the author of More Awesome Than Money . Luke Larson enjoys taking walks, even in the midst of Fargo's sub-zero winters, as a way of keeping company with Jesus, his wife, family and friends - of both earth and heaven.  Although Luke has lived in various parts of the country, his early upbringing and several returns to the Big Sky Country qualify him as a native Montanan.  During eight years as a Jesuit seminarian, he taught religion and speech communications at two high schools and was program director at a Catholic radio station in Nome, Alaska.  Luke holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a master's in religious studies from Gonzaga University.  He is now a mission executive with one of the largest Catholic health systems.  Luke and Evie, a retired registered nurse, have made several volunteer medical mission trips abroad.  Luke is a certified chaplain, executive coach, spiritual director and group facilitator.
