Kumiko is an ancient Japanese woodworking technique of creating beautiful patterns using thin strips of wood by high skilled craftsmen. This book describes how to make some of these complex patterns using a CNC Router to cut the slots instead of using the traditional Japanese plane, saw, and chisel techniques. The CNC provides a different way of machining the many thin strips of wood used in a Kumiko pattern prior to their assembly. It also ensures the finished strips are identical and accurately machined. The book shows how six different Kumiko patterns can be cut using this technique. It shows the reader how to assemble the strips and frame the completed pattern.Skills in using traditional Japanese pull-saws or specialised chisels are not required. The author assumes that the reader will have a basic understanding of how to develop designs in CAD, configure CAM operating instructions and use a basic CNC Router. Separately the author has written books for beginners on how to use a CNC Router.
