Tony Kushner s Homebody/Kabul was just beginning rehearsal when Islamist terrorists attacked the United States on 9/11. A play about a British woman who butts up against Afghan culture, Homebody/Kabul perfectly takes up one of Kushner s main theatrical themes: the unraveling of history. At the time in 2001, Kushner said, I didn t imagine, when I was working on the play, that by the time we produced it, the United States would be at war with Afghanistan and yet, his prescient play foreshadows the problems, both human and political, that arise when two foreign cultures collide. Fisher is also a director and actor, has held several research fellowships, and is book review editor of Broadside, the publiccation of the Theatre Library Association. He was 1999-2000 McLain-McTurnan-Arnold Research Scholar at Wabash College, where he taught for twenty-nine years. He was named "Indiana Theare Person of the Year" by the Indiana Theatre Association in 1997 and in 2007 Fisher received the Betty Jean Jones Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Amerian Theatre from the American Theatre and Drama Society.
