Be careful, this tip can scratch your find and damage the patina This set of 6 cleaning pencils which included 4 pencils plus 1 steel wool brush and 1 brass brush, is a great addition to your cleaning toolbox. We do recommend being very careful when cleaning copper based items, as it is probably the most "sensitive" or softest metal. These pencils can be sharpened with a regular pencil sharpener. More versatile than other pencil sets you may find online! Lighter, thinner and longer than other pencils with longer fittings. These will also last longer while being more comfortable to use. Ideal on bronze coins such as ancient Roman Coins, US Indian Head Pennies or 2-cent pieces. Perfect for cleaning bronze coins and artifacts found while metal detecting Directions and recommendations: 1. All these pencils EXCEPT the steel wool pencil, can be used in conjunction with liquid cleaners like Mint State Restoration cleaner. The Mint State Restoration Cleaner will help soften any tough crust or concretions while the pencil gently removes it. The steel wool pencil should always be used dry as it will rust quickly if it gets wet. 2. The use of the brass scalpel is pretty self-explanatory. It should be used at the very beginning of a cleaning session if the crust proves to be very hard. You should stop using it before you actually reach the surface of the coin. 3. The two hard point pencils should be used in circular motions. Start gently and then figure what amount of pressure is appropriate. 4. The hard point pencils are absolutely great to get rid of heavy concretions-like dirt crust. 5. The fiberglass (white) pencil allows you to scratch without damaging anything or removing the patina. It is the most gentle pencil in this set.
