Lieutenant Trufant chronicled a spiraling homicide detective's determined quest to catch a serial slayer of veterans. Now, the highly anticipated sequel pits one of his suspects in a thrilling game of cat and mouse-where the predator may actually be the prey. . . LeAnn Haddad finally evades Lieutenant Marcus Trufant in San Francisco after his investigation. Changing her name, she heads to Singapore to hide out in in her brother's "safe house" while she figures out her next move. She doesn't realize she's about to be abducted, drugged, and forced into sexual slavery. Except her captors have no idea what they've brought on themselves. LeAnn escapes leaving their corpses in her wake and sets out on a relentless path to bring down the mastermind of the globe-spanning sex trafficking ring. Working parallel to LeAnn is Singapore Superintendent Kwan Kim Lai. For the past several years, Kwan's been trying to solve the case of young women going missing and it's been all dead ends-until he gets "help" from this unlikely ally. But can Kwan trust a killer? "An action-packed thriller and richly developed, intricately nuanced story about the strife of war, the perils of PTSD, and the slippery slope of addiction, Lieutenant Trufant will keep you holding your breath as you build to the deeply satisfying conclusion." "Set in the vice-riddled streets of Singapore, LEANN AND THE CLEAN MAN follows a ruthless young women's quest for revenge upon the crime boss who kidnapped her. LEANN AND THE CLEAN MAN is the second novel in Jeff Shaw's 'Bloodline' series of crime thrillers...Written by retired American cop Jeff Shaw, this novel has plenty of comfortingly familiar, hard-boiled archetypes-a veteran police detective with a pregnant wife, a vain crime boss and a variety of sidekick goons. LeAnn herself seems to be part of the "sociopath-who-is-gradually-growing-a-heart" trend in storytelling. LEANN AND THE CLEAN MAN, a dark crime, blood-splattered revenge thriller . . . shows off the author's skill and confident command of the genre." -Deborah Martin for IndieReader LeAnn and the Clean Man is appropriate for the category. But... This book was a revelation. Wow! I love this contest because I am so lucky to get the chance to experience a diverse selection of writers, many of who I have never heard of. This is the case with Jeff Shaw and his LeAnn and the Clean Man. I have never heard of this author nor read the first book in this series, but this was very good. The writing is crisp and cut to the bone. With a hero, is that the right word, that is intriguing and just plain bad ass. This reminds me of Orphan X by Gregg Hurwitz with the morally ambiguous lead character who starts to grow right before your eyes. The action is non stop and the pages fly by. The mechanics and organization are all very good as well. The story is has a strong beginning, interlude and ending. The Clarity was also good. The cover was just right for this book and the interior was easy to read and comfortable. This was one of my favorite books to judge because it was such a surprise. - IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award Judge Jeff Shaw was a police officer in South Florida for twenty-four years.
