Let's Take a Walk –a two-hour walk no farther than three blocks from the square–in historic downtown Lancaster, PA. Established on May 10, 1729, Lancaster County became the prototype for the 63 counties that were to follow. The three existing counties at that time–Philadelphia, Chester, and Bucks–were copies of English shires. In 1730, Andrew Hamilton turned management of the property over to his son James.
