When Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt, the Israelites famously “plundered the Egyptians.” Later, when he was about the build the Tent of Meeting, God gave Moses very specific instructions for its construction. But where would a people wandering in the desert get all the materials needed to build the things God instructed? From what God had provided through the Egyptians’ offering! Thus, “plundering the Egyptians” means benefiting from others to accomplish your mission. The Church needs to again “plunder the Egyptians,” i.e., learn to benefit from what businesses and non-profits have learned regarding metrics so that we can better accomplish our God-given, grace-embodying, world-transforming, disciple-making mission. In this book, pastor and former engineer Bob Johnson reveals how to leverage metrics to help the Church accomplish its mission. With his unique view of metrics, Bob distinguishes between outputs that we count from the outcomes that we measure. He also shows how to design an integrated Mission Metrics Framework and how to use a tool called The Learning Loop. He uses examples from real churches throughout to help the reader apply the content.
