Joseph Warren was the foremost Patriot leader who ignited the American Revolution. His activities, well-known in England, made him the King’s best candidate for the hangman’s noose as a traitor. Yet his sought-after prominence in Freemasonry bestowed on him respect not only from fellow Patriots, but from Loyalists and British Officers alike, offering vital opportunities no other Patriot could attain. British General Thomas Gage possessed arrest warrants for Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Joseph Warren. Adams and Hancock fled Boston to avoid capture. Warren not only remained but engaged with Gage regularly. Warren alone made the decision to call out the militia to face the British at Lexington and Concord sending Paul Revere on his famous ride. All other Patriot leaders had fled Boston. Warren remained until he learned that shots were fired on the Lexington Green. He then calmly left on a public ferry, unmolested. Following the Battles of Lexington and Concord, Warren was president of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress, chairman of the Committee of Safety, and unofficial commander of the Provincial Army. Nevertheless, he was offered amnesty by the King. He ignored the offer. Warren sacrificed his life in the Battle of Bunker Hill, where he volunteered to hold back the advancing British troops in hand-to-hand combat to gain time for his fellow Patriots to retreat. British General Howe declared Warren’s life equal to 500 colonials. A prominent Loyalist claimed that had Joseph Warren lived, his eminence would have out shined that of Washington. Joseph Warren was, and remains, the essence of American Liberty!

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
