Life in Congo is based on the biography of Harry Chief Smith. Harry was born to young parents in Belgium. He will be adopted by a Congolese family in Congo, receive a new Congolese name, belong to a tribe, love his family, friends and studies in Congo. This book tells about the big changes that will occur in Harry's youth and that will follow him through his life. The change of his identification and the discovery of his foreign origins was where Harry began to look at his life with another purpose. Since 1972, the Democratic Republic of the Congo had faced a big political change with Mobutu Sese Seko, a former President who decided that no one could hold a foreigner's name and get involved in politics or public administration., and all upcoming constitutions had prohibited citizens of dual citizenship. In May 1997, the Kabila reign began and the Country had been infiltrated by foreign leaders pretending to be true congolese. Even the identy of Joseph Kabila , former President of DR Congo, has been questioned. Hyppolite Kanambe is his real name and his origins are related to Rwanda. Kunda Batware and Bosco Tanganda used to be leading Generals in the Congolese army forces but were confirmed Rwanda citizens. Many officials and high-ranking individuals in the government and in the Congo army forces have been connected to Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania etc. Harry Chief Smith discovered who his biological father was and started digging into his own origins. His interests in who he is will lead him to create a foundation that will question the origins of high-ranking political leaders. The DRC is a very rich country in mineral resources. Wars and political instability have characterized the country since 1996. In its first part, the book describes the childhood of Harry, the family and school atmosphere. It is presenting each parent who saw him growing up. The loss of his adopted father and other relatives are described likewise. Also, for the most part, the book will take you to Morocco and South Africa where Harry will be acquainted with other cultures as a law student and face the change of the Apartheid system as a young missionary of the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints before returning to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
