If you’re reading this, you're considering to invest in the latest book in the series of season reviews from the The Good, The Bad and The Ugly at Liverpool FC podcast and blog. Or, you’ve been lucky enough to have received one for free! In any case, thank you so much for your support. I was contemplating not to continue with the blog this season. Family and work commitments mean time is ever tighter, in which to give these endeavours justice. However, with any great love, it is never given up easily and thus here I am. No doubt given the choice, there’ll be another one next year. Fittingly, this edition is of course called the ‘Champions Edition’ in recognition of Liverpool’s 20th top-flight league title. Made even more special as it was the first season under a new boss Arne Slot. Unfortunately, the team weren’t able to further build on that success having lost to Plymouth, Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United in the FA Cup, Champions League and Carabao Cup respectively. Despite those disappointments, this season can certainly still be described as a success, whichever way you look at it. In Liverpool securing number 20, I was hoping to focus solely on the ups and down on their Premier League title success. However, just as the book was being finished my world and that of every Liverpool fan was rocked by the news of Diogo Jota’s passing. As a result, I have delayed the publishing in order to include a tribute to Liverpool’s own number 20 at the end of the book. I’ve tried to capture my thoughts, and perhaps to some extent, those of every Liverpool fan. We have all been truly saddened by these events. To make matters worse, Diogo’s younger brother Andre Silva also lost his life in this fatal accident. Our beloved number 20 leaves behind his wife and three young children. My prayers, best wishes and condolences to the family and everybody else affected. There were some fantastic performances this season – many of which our ‘lad from Portugal’ played a significant part in. As with any before it, there was plenty of highs and some lows. Through it all, we have been Reds together, in the knowledge that: You’ll never walk alone.
