Living, Loving, Letting Go is a collection of poetry, compiled the through the prism of life's three major movements. This collection is an intimate look at moments in the life of Journalist and Thought-Leader Rahman Johnson. His poems solicit introspection, self-reflection and joy. He brought rhythm tothe otherwise staid pages of a book. He moved my Kindle to a smooth pitch ofsound so clear that I could "hear" the words that I was reading. How did he do it? By writing from his heart and sharing his journey asrevealed through the poetry. Journalism Professor Rahman Johnson createdtremendous works over the years. As he revealed, his poetry was inspired by thelives of the family and friends who were fortunate to receive their tributes aspresents from him on birthdays. Pay attention and receive the learning fromRahman-the-actor and Rahman-the-son. Rahman-the-writer and -the thinkerand -the-doer are also precisely evident in carefully selected words andcontexts within each poem. Simpy, Wow! I have long been a "fan" of Johnson, the multimedia mentor to manystudents and professional colleagues. I admire his love of life. Hegreets life with a loud, booming tone of gratefulness that spills over in thepages of this book. Now I have another reason to admire Johnson. I am in lovewith his life's work as a poet in one of the most compelling works thatI've read, "Living, Loving, Letting Go .. Poems on Life by RahmanJohnson." He numbered the poetry and also titled each one. Sometimes, Johnson added a quoteat the beginning of a work in a dual tribute to the originator and the personhe wrote about. I pondered the numbering of each work. I believe it speaks toJohnson's organized and orderly life. There are so many poignant moments of loving each and every poem and therefore, making it nearly impossible to select my favorites. Yet, I must: All of thewritings to and about his loved ones who have transitioned from this naturallife, score high on my most adored works. Johnson's dear mother, the late Ida RossJohnson, is his most cherished loved one who transitioned more than a year ago.His tribute to her is amazing. I also love the photo that he included of hisMom (#36) as part of the words he penned to her in his "The Lessons ofLife." The same is true of his Uncle Mendez, Sr. (#'s12-13). Hespeaks fondly of this man who celebrated a milestone birthday anddeparted this life a few months later. I gained a lot of insight aboutJohnson's family from Cuba. I could write a book about this book. Instead, read "Living, Loving,Letting Go." It's freedom, it's alive and majestic. You are a bad brother. Solid. Rock-sturdy.
