He also told the story of his migration to Switzerland and his difficulty adapting as a dark Muslim in a Swiss Christian environment. The author had a rough childhood, which will break your heart. However, this book is not a mere storybook. It is more. Living a Life in Balance: A Holistic Guide for Physical, Mental, Social, Spiritual Health and Performance by Abdullah Boulad is a book that will help you get rid of negativity and a toxic life and point your life toward a happier direction. The pyramid provided in this book was represented well and left a permanent image in my mind. The pyramid is made up of (from base to peak) physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. Hence, the book was divided into these four sections. The author talked about different aspects of our lives that we should work on to achieve happier and more balanced lives. This includes our environment, friends, inner selves, family, etc. Being from Lebanon and growing up in Switzerland, the author was exposed to two religions. This positively affected this book as the author spoke of spirituality in both Christian and Islamic terms. He sometimes wrote things in Arabic and explained them. The author also combines science and the energy of the universe. As a book about balance, it was really balanced in many aspects. This book is mainly educational. You will learn about nutrients, how essential proteins are in your body, the different food sources of protein, and how carbohydrates are not the enemy. In this book, you will also encounter other things like physical fitness, types of meditation, gratitude, depression, exercise, positive thinking, optimism, etc. The book did not desist from going into the science of food. The Mediterranean diet for healthy living was also mentioned. This book will teach you how important moderation is and why you need it. There are many exercises and call-to-actions in the book. It provides hands-on practice for the lessons in this book. I had some realizations while reading this book. One of them is " ..we are the products of our own environment(s), of the words used around us, of the magic that others invoke." (Page 10 ) The book taught me to accept rejection and use it as a stepping stone. I will never let rejection limit my abilities again. I learned and understood the difference between health and well-being. Furthermore, for two years now, I have lived a life of gratitude, and I am a living testimony of how adopting a life of gratitude can change one's life completely. I was so happy when I encountered gratitude in this book. I became aware of some limiting beliefs that could be holding me down.
